can't sleep....

Posted 11-19-2008 at 03:30 AM by johnhwoo
yep.....another one of those nights...
this isn't the first time that I blogged regarding this...
I guess just too much on my mind...what if this...what if that....what if I can't...what if I'm not good enough...have I wasted 33 years of my life...am I doing the right thing...etc, etc...plus my boards are gonna be in the coming spring...what if I don't pass...What if I don't complete my medical training...

so instead of trying to sleep, I just get up and log onto good ol' aznlover...where the people are nice and at least "pretend" like they care....;)

but I worry too much...I suppose I must just persist, and ultimately my goal will come true...right?? ok...the end...I feel better now...I just took a "mental shit", according to boodocksaints...:biglaugh: thanks for reading this..or not...whatever...good night folks...:)

as a quote in the women's restroom of the english building on my university campus says

you must you must you must persist
when the going is hardest hit

don't give up! everything will fall into place. i'm the same way as you..wondering if everything i've done is worthwhile or if my major is the right one for me considering how poor i might end up haha....take care.

I'm sure you know you're not the only one with doubts about career, life, etc. Anxiety can be a wonderful life saving tool, but it can also bring sleepless night. One day at a time and you will get through it. Then you will have yet another challenge or worry to be sleepless over too. Unfortunately, that just the way it works.

My brother-in-law graduated med school this past Spring. He told me he started taking a very low dose of lorazepam so he could calm down, study and sleep for exams. He only took the drug a few nights before the test though as he only experienced his anxiety for tests.

Best of luck to you in your career, and if a change of career is in order....no worries. If you do change careers, you might realize it was the best decision you could have ever made.

To have tried and failed is better than not to have tried at all.

A couple of Benedryl and one 3 mg. of melatonin will knock you out. You won't even have time to think about anything. As you get older you tend to worry more about things. It is a traight of Virgos too. We tend to worry about everything, even if we don't have anything to worry about. We will make something up to worry about. I found that the Benedryl and melatonin are life savers. I get all the rest I need now.

I would say if you pass the boards, then try it out for a few years. If you then decide you are unhappy, then switch or get into something that still uses the medical knowledge. I know many doctors that worked in the insurance industry. They weren't seeing patients, but they were reviewing files to make sure that the company was not being ripped off by the insureds. It's also an 8 - 5 job, which is nice. That is something you can think about as well.
