I have owned my Sharp TV since July 2004 and it already needs replacing!!!
The volume on it sucks and now I have to turn it up to 36 to hear anything but a whisper. Then all of the sudden the volume will work and it will almost blast me out of the room. I was hoping it was my cable, but it's not. My other TV is fine. I'll need to replace this one soon because it's driving me f'ing crazy. Great, another $800 I'll have to pay for something that'll last another 4 years.
My gf still has an old Curtis Mathes set that she's had for almost 20 years and it's now just needing to be replaced. The bad thing about it is, you just can't put it out by the curb and the garbage men will pick it up--I'll have to call a handy-man to remove it and do what he wants to with it. There's a proper way to dispose of TVs, but I forget what it is. I'm thinking of going to the bedroom and watching that pitiful TV, which is also on its last legs.
My VCR is also losing it, so yeah, I need a whole electronic make-over.

I buy them used. They aren't so modern looking but last long and are WAY cheaper.

See? This is why we should all just gather round the piany like in the old days. Or if you must go hi-tech, invest in a wireless. BTW luv, am liking the hair. Don't think I've seen a pic of you since the AsianMan days.Posted 05-17-2008 at 05:31 PM by twentyfour

I assume you want to get a lcd, research the specific models you're interested in here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forum...prune=30&f=166, it's by far the best forum for video gear and questions, most people there are friendly and very knowledegable. I'm Roger Lococco over there (character on the old Wiseguy series with Ken Wahl, lol)Posted 05-17-2008 at 06:13 PM by Shang Chi

I'm madly in love with our Sony Bravia - best fucking TV we've ever owned. I have a Samsung in my room and it's pretty decent but the Bravia makes me wet every time I turn it on.Posted 05-17-2008 at 06:17 PM by sushirama

Sony and Samsung use the same lcds, maybe the circuitry in the Bravia is better. some of those low cost Vizio tvs you see in the stores are using those Sony Samsung panels as well.Posted 05-17-2008 at 06:30 PM by Shang Chi

Sadly, everything these days is built like junk, that's why everything is so cheap. I mean, how long could a $40 DVD player possibly last??? Manufacturers figure that people would rather keep re-buying cheap electronics every couple years than invest in an expensive TV or DVD player or whatever. It's pretty sad, I think.Posted 08-17-2008 at 07:00 PM by oistrakh
