I got a call from Tribal Education-there was a problem with my FNA at school. The Financial Need Analysis is a form my school sends to the tribe, and based on that, the tribe allocates funds to me. I had already modified my FAFSA to change my marital status to separated, so my husband's sizable income is not in the picture. After some phone calls, I found out that my husband never filed our 2007 taxes. Nothing I find out about him disappoints me anymore. I have also learned to never put my financial wellbeing in someone else's hands, and I feel like a moron for trusting him as the moneyman of our household all these years. His laziness delays me getting my check for the fall semester, so I got myself down to HR Block the same day. I hit it off like crazy with my tax preparer. She has a similar story in her past, of her first husband cheating on her when they had a newborn child. She looked at *everything* for me, and she kept saying "Chica chica chica you are gonna LOVE me!"
I initially did my taxes myself, but to be on the safe side, I decided to go with HR Block. When I did them myself, I got back like $780 on federal and $140 on state. This woman did her thing, and holy shit I do love her. I want to follow her around with a basket of rose petals to leave in her wake, I want to peel her grapes and fan her with a giant palm frond, I want to serenade her at night with harp music.
It's more than a little embarassing to be 30 and dependent on my friends and family to get fed and sheltered, so the check, when it comes, will give me a measure of my pride back. I made good money on my own before I decided to go back to school and became a student on a budget. It's tough for me to have my hand out, to have a baby to feed, diaper, and clothe without my husband's income. I have my savings, but I'll dip into that when I move everything out of our house.
And I'll still get my stimulus check later on too. My husband won't be able to claim the baby whenever he decides to file, or as head of household since I already did. It's a bit of justice for me.

i am happy for you taking your life back and putting it in your own hands. it does NOT belong anywhere else for now. you are a strong person and you have a good head on your shoulders. i am sorry he has been such a strange bed fellow. hopefully he will learn one day that he must take certain responsibilities.Posted 07-10-2008 at 12:41 PM by xqzmi

The IRS also has a Hold Harmless form.
They may have changed the name of it, but check to see what it's called these days.
Fill it out and, whatever he's responsible for fucking up will be his penalty/payment ALONE! The IRS won't come back on you for anything.Posted 07-10-2008 at 07:47 PM by Sweet

Sweet is brilliant.
Take care of yourself and that beautiful little baby, he needs at least one mature parent.Posted 07-10-2008 at 08:39 PM by CinthebigD
