My favourite excerpts from Shantaram. A Novel

I've been thinking about this great book a lot lately and the lessons its taught me through the magic of its story and the wisdom entrenched within its 933 Pages...I am not blogging here to spam in any way, this is personal for me, an external diary of my favourite quotes, lessons, philosophies is another way of looking at it. The excerpts are trancendental so take it and use it, adapt it teach it or just enjoy it as your own, I'm sure the author would want that too...if you read about him you'll understand.
Opening Paragraph of Shantaram - The Novel. I couldn't put it down after reading this first page...
It took me a long time and most of the world to learn what I know about love and fate and the choices we make, but the heart of it came to me in an instant, while I was chained to a wall and being tortured. I realised, somehow, through the screaming in my mind, that in that shackled, bloody helplessness, I was free: free to hate the men who were torturing me, or to forgive them. It doesn't sound like much, I know. But in the flinch and bite of the chain, when its all you've got, that freedom is a universe of possibility. And the choices you make, between hating and forgiving, can become the story of your life.
