I have survived my trip to SC. My oldest son is with my parents for the summer and I have some peace.
I realized early on that my mother is determined to be miserable in her life and she wants me to be miserable about it as well. As soon as she started in on the annual "I hate your father" speech, I just tune out. When she finally stops bitching, I ask her the same question I always ask her: "If you are so unhappy, why do you stay?"
She never has an answer for me.
I think it's sad to be in your sixties and be so unhappy. But if you're going to stay with the person you claim to hate and be unhappy, don't complain about it. They don't give out Martyr Awards in Heaven. Just stop it already.
Life is too short to be miserable, right?

I agree. Life is too short to be miserable! You would think at her age, wisdom would have made her realize complaining about something doesn't change it. She needs to change it. My Mother has passed, but when we used to talk over the phone from state to state, all she did was gossip about family and friends....drove me nuts!
