I want to ask you something...

Am I a weirdo because I don't drive?
Every time I am around my relatives, they ask me this same question:
So, when are you going to learn how to drive?
My answer, as always, is Never. They seem so horrified and perplexed by this answer. I am 36 years old and I have never had the inclination to even want to learn how to drive. I have no burning desire to get behind the wheel of anything. I just don't, you know?
So I get lectured on the many reasons why I should drive.
1. Driving gives you Freedom! Well, I am not chained to my house. I live in a city with okay public transportation. I can go anywhere I want to go!
2. You need to drive for your kids! Not necessarily. Starboy goes to school on the bus and loves to take the train all over the city. Starbaby's current word is "Train"!
3. What if your husband (dies, leaves, etc..)? That's an easy one! I'll just find another man to drive me places. There are plenty of them around.
Anyway, I am really tired of the great Driving Debate. Here's one question from me:
Why is it that the person who is harrassing me about driving hasn't been behind the wheel themselves in years? What is that about? Do you want a chauffeur?
(Yes, I know that was 3 questions!

They maybe just needed an ego cookie and hoped they could impress you with a little speech about what they perceive as your shortcomings.
Man, I love driving, but if someone does not and lives in areas with good enough public transportation then it's all good.
It's not like you can't get around otherwise.Posted 08-09-2008 at 10:20 AM by Lady_Fate

you are a weirdo if you live in the us, but, you ok. lol.
if you can live without driving, it is no one's business and they should not pressure you if you feel like you will never want to or be able to drive.Posted 08-09-2008 at 10:22 AM by xqzmi

Well, my relatives repeat the same stories over and over too.
Except those which really drove me insane in the past, I just yelled at them (mum and grammy are the usual suspects here) like ...
90 decibel, 20 minutes minimum, every time they brought it up.
I had to do this like three times in a row for every subject and then repeat it once a year for like five years and now they are over it.
But I only did this with one or two well picked pet peeves, I didn't wanna annoy the queenbees in the house too much.
