My mother's in town...

Posted 08-19-2008 at 12:09 PM by Stardancer2008
They had to bring my eldest son home, so they basically decided to disrupt my household for a week. I love my parents, but I love them more at a distance!

But the beautiful thing is that here on my home turf, I can always leave when Mom's conversations turn into "I hate your father" rants. These are 2 grown ass people who stayed together for 47 years! How ridiculous is it for my mother to literally shoot daggers from her eyes when my father passes by? He could care less, because he knows that my mother doesn't have the guts to leave him. He just walks on, whistling to himself and doing whatever he damn well pleases.

I don't want to hear the bullshit because she chose to be with him and she chooses to stay with him. As far as I can tell, there was no shotgun wedding.

I told Hubby that if we ever came to hate each other, let's be smart enough to break up. Forget that "staying together for the sake of the children" crap. My parents have no excuse since my brother is almost fifty and I am almost forty. My mother has plenty of family and friends here in Philly; she really doesn't have to stay with Dad. There aren't any martyr awards in Heaven!

Sigh. Just counting the days until they leave on Monday...

Oh noes, does your mum bicker about your dad too?
    I hate it.
Mine sneaks up to me on some sundays and shoots some complaints out as if I were their family therapist or something.
Last sunday I told her: "stop bickering to me, you two are grown up, you can argue alone.".
    She had to laugh then.
And my dad is in no way bad, she just likes to complain.

My dad was really terrible to my mom, and my mom took her bitter out on me (always complaining about my dad). My dad always yelled and throw stuff around the house!!! I'm glad they divorced now...I agree with you Star...the sake of the kids my butt. The day my dad left us was the best and quietest day and best 18th birthday I had!

she is only trying to stick it to him. she might be thinking that if she tortures him enough while staying married, she will get some type of reward at the end. who knows. some people who are not meant to be married after such a long time do not always make the best decisions for themselves. another big factor is that she is used to the position she has chosen for herself. she is not willing to "give up" because she probably sees herself as a strong women who can make something out of it somehow and no matter how miserable she is. i also think she might be happy to complain about your father because if she was not so cozy with it and that did not give her a chance to really put on a show, she would be out of there in no time.

another thing, when all the bad things trickle down to the children and they are using the excuse that is why they stay in a marriage, it is never the truth. it is because they are being selfish and trying to show the world they can do it and for a very charitable cause such as the children. they need to prove themselves in one way or another. they think they can reduce the pressures of the world by staying in it.

I wish she'd let go, because I don't need that kind of misery in my life.
