Hey, I can relate to many years in school
I transferred unis and my credits didn't transfer like I had been informed they would and I switched majors so I had a lot of catching up to do. I worked my ass off, taking classes year round for two years and finally graduated two years later - so 6 years for undergrad. BUT it was worth it, it was the right school, right major and I wouldn't have changed a thing looking back.
Then after some time in the work force I went back and got my masters, so that was another 2 years. So eight years total for 2 degrees. Yeah its a lot, but again, circumstances, experiences and doors that were opened by being at the right place at the right time made it worth it.
I think education is incredibly important, and as long as you are working for it, taking longer than the "four years" (average is now 5 I believe anyways) shoulsn't make people feel frustrated. The important thing is that you are working to get that higher education

What if Prince Charming had never shown up? Would Snow White have slept in that glass coffin forever? Or would she have eventually woken up, spit out the apple, gotten a job, a health-care package and a baby from her local neighborhood sperm bank?
