Ok so I am thinking about becoming a pharmaceutical sales rep - anyone worked as one or is working as one now???
Or does anyone work in the public health industry and have a fun recommendation for me.
I'm in the Washington DC/Maryland area... possibilities are endless. I just need something less stressful than a middle school health education teacher at a high risk school.
I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17
Don’t matter if I step on the scene
Or sneak away to the Philippines
They still gonna put pictures of my derrière in the magazine
You want a piece of me?
You want a piece of me…
i work in a pharmacy and get reps coming by all the time.. seems like an ok job i guess.. you just gotta study up on your product a bit, then try to convince the pharmacist to choose your brand.. give em free samples, thats the best way
.. but foreal, if you don't have that "selling" attitude, don't bother being a rep.. you won't have fun, and most importantly you won't get paid!
you get to travel around a bit.. nowhere too glamorous, just different places within your area (driving distance)..
i dunno if it's different in the US, but that's how it is in canada..
Life is short and love is always over in the morning
My sis is an ER nurse right now and she wants to get out of it, but still remain in the medical field. She's been trying to become a pharm rep and she's finding that it's harder than she thought to get in. She said that the reps she saw around the office all were wearing tight suits and wearing stiletto heels. What are they selling?
She's gonna continue trying to get in, but she's also applying to get her Master's in nursing so she can teach or eventually become a nurse practitioner.

lmao...
Ya that part is very true, my ex from Vancouver was a Rep for one of the largest pharm companies...
She only dealt with the hospitals and large clinics, didn't bother with the drug stores...
She was a knock out and when she dressed for work... wow... she didn't do much selling, just making sure the current accounts were still with her...
For the most part it was taking people out for lunch, drinks and golfing...
She traveled, did quite a bit of flying... I got stuck with baby sitting her dog! haha... we lived in the same apartment building, our doors faced each other at the end of the hall, her's apartment was a reflecting of mine... we normally just kept the doors open and walked back and forth, as did out dogs!... don't mind me I'm just rambling now... haha... the thread just brought back memories...
Shortly before we broke up, she changed companies, I remember her car allowance, was $1400/month and that's in 1997 dollars... not to bad... all our meals out were also expensed... maybe that's where I picked up the habit...

Did you learn about the McDonald's coupons from her too? HAHAHAHAHA
It's not that I don't think my sister couldn't do the job, but she's about as tomboyish as you can get. I don't think I've ever seen make-up on her and never in heels. I don't think she was quite prepared with how competitive it is. I told her to become a physician's assistant or a nurse practitioner instead. She won't have to sell herself, I mean drugs, so hard.

well its actually a pretty sweet job, if you don't mind selling yourself. you don't need any kind of specific education, meaning you can have a degree in anything. you basically just a salesperson/spokesmodel for the drug. For the most part, meaning about 90 percent of these people have above average looks and also the car salesman mentality. For me personally, I have feelings on it. At one end, its a good job, good money, good hours, etc...but on the other hand, i do lack a certain respect for it if you know what i mean. esp if you know anything about the politics of these companies and the medical situation in the u.s. then u n know what i mean. on the other hand, i cant say i'm any better bc, hey its a job, and u gotta pay the bills, hence i did sugges my gf that maybe she should consider it for the time being
