I'm interested in how many non-Christians celebrate Christmas. If you do, how did that come about? And how do you celebrate?
As far as I can remember, my family always had Xmas, even though neither of my parents were Christian. I think it was a childhood family tradition on my dad's side that he just enjoyed, and on my mom's side...well, Thais will celebrate any holiday if its fun and gives you an excuse to eat in large groups and give presents
For our family it was just about having fun decorating a tree, doing stuff as a family, and surprising each other with gifts, but mostly my parents got things we could all enjoy together.... a fish tank on one xmas, electric race car track on another (which my dad played with as much as I did) and books and things that were traded around. These days I still do a tiny table sized tree, and have friends for dinner, but we don't do real presents.... just silly and fun stocking stuffers that are inexpensive but thoughtful and useful. Chapstick, hand balm, and stuff like that are big winners here given the weather. Then I usually collect contributions from the expat community to give to the state orphanage on New Years. Interested to see what you all do

Since I am an atheist, I do not consider myself Christian but I do come from a Christian family.
So every Christmas Eve, I have a late diner with some members of my family but the big party in my family has always been New Year's even tho a lot of them are devout Catholics.
A little carry-on baggage is ok, but baggage like that has to be checked at the door. Goldengirl, December 21st '08
I'm the contrary. I come from an ultra conservative Christian family and my mother is known to be hardcore in the community.
For some reason I don't really celebrate christmas anymore in the 'chrsitian' sense and neither in the commercial sense (I'm totally disgusted by that)
I love how people say x-mas is about being with the family and helping others while nobody really talks about where christmas really came from.
Oh let's not forget about the political correctness, I remember a couple of years ago I've been told to say 'happy holidays' as opposed to merry christmas....errr
The lazy way to greet all of you - HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
Yeah, with societies being more and more mixed and varied, there are those who believe that all Christian symbols should be banished...
Did you see Mario Dumont flip out over the x-mas tree issue?
I think that's bull.
The western society was established on more or less christian values. I wonder what would happen if a bunch of americans went to say...Korea and asked to have all buddhist symboles removed during the 'coming of buddha' festival.
I remember a few years ago I think A rabbi sued the detroit airport because it had an x-mas tree. come on!
If someone wants to celebrate something, do so but don't tell others not to.
The lazy way to greet all of you - HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
Before this turns into a debate about beliefs and religion being what it is.. was.. and should be.
Can i just point out that most wars are started this way? So please lets not have one..
I personally put up the tree and decorations ready for the 3rd of December, because that is the birth date of my 2nd eldest and its just tradition now. No other reason for it.
The whole christmas family thing i would love to do in full, but for the past 3yrs i have not had the chance, given that my family is so far spread apart. Nighty has never really had a christmas.. He has watched others have one, but not been part of it fully. So this year we are going all out, even though both of us are working day shift xmas day. I will do the cooking of the turkey the night before, and prep for veg, the soup, and the pudd. We have even started buying prezzies.
I know christmas is all money money money these days. But just for once, im not going to complain about the cost, i am just gonna DO. Because my man should at least have one christmas he can remember.
Oh.. I almost forgot, we are not bible bashers either
