Myths of Racial Perception on the Tyra Show.

I am really Glad that I was finally off of work for at least ONE day. So, I desided to watch the boob tube. I happened to watch this show. Did anyone else catch this show?

The Tyra Banks Show

I was like wow. I deal with this kind of junk every single day working in Hawaii.
I work with all kinds of people. I see all kinds of diffrent customers of all kinds of backgrounds. I really DREED going to work because every single day I go through HELL from the many diffrent people coming at me because I have to smile and deal with it. The worst are the darn Military customers and then the White folks that moved here because they LOVE Hawaii. They think that they can cuss at you and get away with it. They only did it ONCE with me.." I still have my darn job. It has been a year and about 6 months, I think.." So, I do fight back. Then there are the Chinese, and the many other folks that come in looking for trouble. It is not just me the folks get NASTY with. We had a local girl that could not take the true HATE that we get at the Job. She never came back after a month of working. She was getting tired of getting rude comments and nasty folks coming at here. This is MY first job that I had to ever deal with so much HATE.. You old members and my friends know that I been all over the world. I worked just about everywhere. But, Hawaii is the worst Place to work by far. So many diffrent races and backgrounds to darn close together and no RULES to follow. Everyone is just CLUTTERED!! The kids don't repect anyone and the growns fight in front of each other.
So, I am asking you all this is 2009 and do you have any friends or do you have any beliefs about diffrent races or cultures? I still do. Though I been all over the world. I find that here in Hawaii all of my HATEFUL thoughts about diffrent people came out into the open. But, I do ask if you do post, NO nasty NAMES towards the folks in my thread. THANKS a lot!!

Here is mine.

Black women- Had no problems what so ever. Though the ones here in Hawaii are REALLY really really strange! They hang with the local women, White women or by themselfs. Only a few I do chat with that are down to earth. That is a Handful. The others are just STRANGE and won't even look your way. I try to say hello and they act like the rest of the darn Island.. They don't say hello back.."
That WOW'S me do the bone. I am so not used to that. Every Black women I met in the USA and outside were so sweet and friendly and NOT STRANGE...like in Hawaii.

Black men- Well, Like I said on the fist one. They are a bit STRANGE here. BUT!
The ones I met it is half and half. Half are really STRANGE and the other Half are down to earth. I really love when the NON-STRANGE half men chat with me. They are really nice guys. The STRANGE half like I said about the Black women (here in Hawaii) They don't even look my way. I do hate the thug looking ones though. The STRANGE ones here dress like RAPPERS with theur pants down then come in with a NON-Black women. I am like WHAT the HELL? How LAME!!
Then the NON-BLACK women always PAY...

Asian men- Growing up I never really new much about Asian anything. I lived in non-Asian areas. I went to ONE school where there were Asian people. But, when I got into the Navy I dated Asians... Then when I went to Japan I loved it!! The Japanese were really friendly. I even made some Japanese friends. Then I came to Hawaii. The place where everyone is a bit STRANGE.." The AISANs here hate on each other so darn bad it is really SAD!! I am so glad that I am not going to have to live here for life! THANK the lord!! UGH!! The Aisan men here are NUTS!! They have just about every kind of Asian here.." They can be so mean!!!

Asian women- Same as above.." But, I have to say Half of the ones that I came in contact with here in Hawaii are pretty ok. The other half are really NASTY and rude to me. But, in Japan I loved how nice and friendly they were. Not rude. You can go up and say hello and a lot did not even speak english and still we said HELLO and had a smile. Not in Hawaii. These girls are so stuck on themselfs. They have fowl mouths( the mean half).

Indian Men- Nothing BAD to say.." I have frinds from India. The ones I met overseas are really respectable. The ones I met in the USA are the same Respectable.

Indian Women- DITTO. Though I just have ONE Indain women friend. I am friends with her hubby also. They are NOT STRANGE in Hawaii.

White Men- here we go!! STRANGE as hell in HAWAII...." RUDE and just not normal.
Nothing more to say on this one.." Oh wait. I do love RED HEADS....

White women- Really MEAN and just plain mean in Hawaii. They will stare you down here like it is a challenge or something. Really RUDE!! STRANGE as hell in Hawaii. Outside of Hawaii the ones that are mean keep their mouths closed and then the Nice ones I have had good times with. Hell my best friend is a German/Spanish girl.

I will have to finsh this later. I can't think of any othe race of people SORRY.
Now who is fist to dell me their veiws of races or about the Tyra show ( if you seen it).

I saw the episode... I really can't even comment on this post though.

I thought the segment was eye-opening and should have- at least helped people observe more than they judge and generalize.

But hey!

i saw the show and a lot of the stuff irritated the hell out of me. and funnily enough the person i was most angry at wasn't the white kid who was supremely ignorant (for some reason racist doesn't really describe him, though the things he said were racist..). i was most angry with the arab kid who denied his heritage and refused to let his mom wear her traditional headgear in public. i was screaming at the tv lol. i've never met anyone like that and i'd rather not -its so angering to me for someone to have such little disregard for their culture.

i understand 9/11 was a significant part of american history but 1) he could help people understand that it's not all muslims or all arabs that have those views 2)show pride in his culture, which would probably still shine the light onto his heritage and his people. i'm not saying that you have to go around in traditional clothing and speak the language at every turn, but be proud of your roots.

he was so ashamed of being arab that he told potential girlfriends that he was italian or spanish, he didn't tell them his last name(even after dating them), and he would never let it get to the point where she could meet his parents because he didn't want her to hear them speaking arabic thats just shocking to me.

i know when growing up, kids who are most obviously different (ethnicity, weight, smarts, etc) are more likely to get picked on but parents can reinforce that the children are just lovely the way they are and the kids most likely grow out of being embarrassed about their culture (or whatever they were being picked on for).

that my 2 cents, and that just about one thing, i could go on haha

and i gotta give props to the dark-skinned black lady, the muslim lady, and the afro-dominican (i think that's what he called himself) guy. they seemed like the ones that had the most sense on that show.

I saw the show...I was on twitter posting my comments. LOL...anyway, I was very surprised that these were young people making such harsh and negative comments. I know the older generation have racial issue issues but these kids have grown up with racial awareness and diversity programs but still they think in a racist fashion. I worry for my son when he's ready for school and to be in social situations with other kids

Randomness: I'm sick to death of tyra's interracial dating shows that only have black women/white men, black men/white women, and hispanics of both genders dating both races. When the heck sees going to have white women/asian men, black women/asian men, and asian women/hispanic couples on here dang segments?

My age group (generation y) is screwed about race issues, but the next generation coming up (generation t) has a great chance for better racial harmony.

Some more randomness: Why do the guys I talk to try so hard to be into hip hop???

As much as I like Tyra, I tend to hate her social experiments about race. The examples are too contrived and the dialogue is forced, and the topics never dig as deep as they could. And no one really learns anything by the end.

Tyra has done segments with interracial dating that involved Asians. One time she had a panel of men of different races, and their reactions/feelings to women of other races. She has also done shows about people's initial perceptions of an interracial couple. But again everything is so contrived that it's hard to believe what anyone is saying/or what they really believe.

Yeah, I didn't get the white kid. Most of what he said seemed to be just for show. While I do think he probably is pretty damn prejudice, it was hard for me to take him seriously.

And I totally LOL'ed at the Arab kid. Funny it didn't occur to him that being on the show would affect his dating since everyone knows he's been lying. The kid has issues and his mom should get him some therapy.

And I also LOL'ed at the white girl that got called out by Tyra when she kept saying that her racism was religion based and how she was raised (or something like that).

Really, the only likeable people in that room were the Asian guy, the Latino guy, the Muslim girl, and the black girl that cried. I wish these people had gotten more screen time. Everyone else on the panel just sounded like idiots.

I remember those shows. I don't think there was asian men in the panel.

The only asian interracial couple was an asian girl with a black boyfriend. I want trya to expanded different types of couples.
