A South Korean geophysicist paralyzed from the neck down defies stereotypes of the disabled

one of the better hours of television time in my life.

I was rather surprised at how far behind in treatment of the handicapped South Korea is. But this guy is trying to change that!

I watched this tonight too, and I was also surprised at the treatment of disabled people in SK.
He was pretty inspirational.
Did you catch the little blurb about the 6 (or 7, I dunno) characteristics of a primate? For some reason I found that really eyecatching.

A friend of mine is writing a thesis on this for her Ph.D (her area is more about depression + disabled in Korea). She told me pretty much the same thing and worse, depression is such a taboo that people don't want to admit or talk about it...

Depression seems to be a theme that scares Asian people from my experiences. And yet, catching up with my ex-fiance, who is back in China, when I told him my son was autisitic, he saw it as a blessing.

But what was eye-opening about that program, was that anyone in a wheel chair is pretty much sequestered away. Seoul doesn't even have handicapped ramps, this guy was bringing his own whereever he went, that can't be easy.
