All right! Good for you getting engaged! Now, here's what you need to know:
1) If your family is anything like mine, you will need to assert yourself when it comes to how you want your wedding to be. Don't be afraid to piss people off. It's your day, and you're worth it, so don't let people run all over you like I did. If you do, you'll hate your wedding just as much as I hated mine.
2) Don't try to do everything by yourself. There aren't enough hours in the day. People will be glad to help you, so don't be afraid to ask.
3) Friends are better than family when it comes to doing things the way you want.
4) Only invite people who are 21 and older to your bachelorette party. (don't ask me how I know...)
5) If you are having an outside wedding, make sure you have a backup location for if it rains.
6) Two shots of whiskey before the rehersal never hurt anyone. Neither did a flask in the garter on the day of the big event.
7) DO NOT SETTLE FOR A DRESS YOU DON'T NECESSARILY LOVE JUST BECAUSE YOU GET A GOOD DEAL ON IT. GET WHAT YOU LOVE, EVEN IF IT COSTS A MILLION!!!!!
8) If someone is making your day hell, don't hesitate to tell them to leave. It doesn't matter if it's your mother. It is ok to tell them to leave if they're making you crazy.
Yes, as you can tell, my wedding was a disaster. Hindsight is 20/20, so I know exactly what I would have done differently to make it better... You can do better than I did, though. How much time do you have to plan your wedding? I planned mine in 4 months. That's part of the reason things were so bad. If you have any longer than that, you'll be fine!!
