Thanks for the heads up - I've been waiting to see this for a while. Even wrote my local arts cinema hoping they would review the documentary at some point.

There was a free sneak preview of the documentary "Hollywood
Chinese" at PBS's WGBH Studios (One Guest Street, Brighton, MA) on
Thursday, May 21 from 6:30-8:30pm. The preview includes a panel
discussion featuring Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr, and
Asian American Studies professor Peter Kiang.
From the first Chinese American film produced in 1916 to Ang Lee's
Brokeback Mountain nine decades later, "Hollywood Chinese" brings
together actors, writers, directors, and iconic film images, to
examine how Chinese people have contributed to and been portrayed by
the industry.
Moving beyond the stereotypical and exotic images of Suzy Wong and
Bruce Lee, such artists as Wayne Wang, Joan Chen, David Henry Hwang,
Nancy Kwan, and Amy Tan share their experiences of being "the other."
....I've been meaning to post this bulletin, totally forgot and to attend!

Damn, I totally missed this. But then, the time wouldn't have worked for me regardless.
Have you been to their new studio? If not, I'd highly recommend it. The theater recently had some problems with the sprinkler system and it was flooded, but they took care of that. Regardless, it's a first rate theatre for film viewing
The recording studio and their new piano is what I'm totally floored by. Everyone who's played there rants and raves about it being one of the best if not the best sounding space they've ever played in. And it's not just with classical and jazz people. The studio's rep was travel so far in the grapevine that even Duran Duran booked the space and recorded there many months ago. They showed up with like half a dozen trailers and Market St. had to be closed off.

Yes, I actually work near by the new building and also did help out on their anual fund raising last year.
Haha, the architecture really doesn't fit with the location but it is pretty intriguing.

It's cool that you volunteered there.
More so because they've been hit hard this year with the recession. And yeah, it totally sticks out like a sore thumb. Just wish the wanker company that put up the graphics monitor would get it fixed. It's ridiculous that the foundation paid multi-million for the monitor that only worked for a few months.
Also, if you ever get a chance, check out the rice patio, the boardroom as well as Frontline's and Masterpiece Theater's offices.

Hahaha, you not kidding, I have to deal with closed lane every time I drive by. They are constantly working on the damn thing.....tho it is pretty cool WHEN it works.
Thanks, I will have to check them out when I get a chance.
