I think there should be a balance. Be your own man. Don't let stereotypes hold you back. But at the same time be socially conscious. For instance, asian men have as much right to their adopted country's culture as anyone else. There's no reason for asian men to be socially marginalized. Speak out against stereotypes in the media. A few weeks ago someone made a thread about a chain of fast food chinese restaurants airing radio ads with demeaning stereotypes of asian men. I looked up the company's website. Called the office and let them know what I thought of their ads.

btw - I'm not trying to take your words out of context. For brevity sake I quote only the most relevant sentences.
i've already talked about this ad nauseam. We're constantly bombarded with images of asian women with white men, where the asian male is conspiciously absent. this sends a subconscious message to society that asians males somehow are not good enough for asian women.

i am trying to support a positive image for AAM/XF PERIOD, but not at the exclusion of AAM/AAF. a lot of you guys on this forum seem to think the only way for media to change is to show AAM/WF to the exclusion of everything else. I fail to see why we must always include WF's with AAM's in order for the image to be positive.

So, I ask you to explain yourself. Why are YOU SO AGAINST AAM/AAF? you even stated that you believe all WF's are "prettier" than AF's. Seeing as most of the men on this board are products of AAM/AAF unions. most marriages are still endogamous. you seem to think that inter-racial relationships are better than all endogamous relationships.

RIGHT ON!!!

see this is what i meant for this thread to be about. Constructive examples and ways to change the ignorance and bigotry towards asian men in the popular media and public.

I am one of the few men who actually speak out and actively do something when asian men as a group are demeaned by the public media. Most of the men on this board would be TOO LAZY & APATHETIC, yet ironically start threads bitching about why they can't experience IR dating.

here's a link for the "ching chong" incident by Rosie O'Donnell on national TV.

i would probably be accurate if i said, that NONE OF YOU did ANYTHING, when that segment was broadcasted. any of you start a petition calling for a public apology from rosie o'donnell? probably "Smashing walnuts" had a good laugh at his own people and justified it as a good natured joke.

the MANAA (media action network for asian americans), headed by Guy Aoki demanded an apology from Rosie O' donnell, which was begrudgingly given by her. this is the political action that needs to be done.

If Don Imus can be taken off the air for calling african american women "nappy headed hos", i don't see how calling asians "chinks" can be considered less offensive and less deserving of equal disciplinary action.

I have no quarrel with the above. But denigrating AM/WF by insinuating that it's based on inferiority complex, desire for ultimate assimilation, highest achievement, was uncalled for.

Apparently you lack the requisite comprehension skills to participate in a constructive debate. Actually, this isn't even really a debate. You're attacking an idea that I never stated or even support.

I never insinuated that ALL AM/WF relationships are based on inferiority complexes and desire for ultimate assimilation. I said "A LOT of the male readers ON THIS BOARD" have self inferiority issues, not ALL.

Take a moment to comprehend this. I said A LOT of men on THIS BOARD. Not all Asian men in real life. Not even A LOT of Asian men in real life. ON THIS BOARD, I see a disproportionate amount of Asian men who desire WF’s to the exclusion of everything else.

I’ve seen numerous threads asking “Have you ever talked to a white girl?”, “What do you like best about white women?”, “Where is the best place for white lady?”, and etc… If you deny these threads exist, I’ll do a quick search and start linking them to this thread so we can debate the motivations of the Asian men who create such weird threads.

If any WF’s happen to read this, I want to say that I have nothing against AM/WF. Since America has a multi-ethnic population, it’s normal and expected that interracial pairings will happen. It’s expected in this day and age to work and live peacefully with individuals of different genders, religious background, age, and ethnicities. Yet, I do not believe we should aspire to inter-racial unions at the exclusion of endogamous ones. To take this even further, we should not promote AM/WF while ignoring AM/Hispanic females or AM/Black females.

Of course not - but I'm not talking about just one wacky professor, but rather a general consenus among professors of Asian-Am studies.

Plus, there are plenty of articles (written by AFs, mind you) at university publications (such as Berkeley) to AAF women's magazines on the topic of why "so many Asian women don't date AMs".

Not to mention studies done by academics (not in Asian-Am studies), such a study done by Columbia sociologists on race and dating and the one done by a UoChicago economics prof. on dating preferences on online dating sites.

There was also a study done by an AF student at Harvard where she found that many AAs (who attend urban public schools w/ a large Asian student body), nonetheless, looked favorably upon "acting white" and that "acting Asian" was a negative.

In addition - there are all the talk shows which have broached this topic or similar ones (such as Asian-Am women going under the knife in order to look what they consider to be more "white").

Methinks you need to be better informed about this issue before putting forward your thoughts on this issue.

If it was only that easy - but most people (esp. the young) are heavily influenced by the media and other environmental factors.

lol just let the AFs be free. Let them marry whoever they want. Being possessive like that is not good for our health.
Besides, the media cannot change the society, it's the society that will change the media. Back in the day, everyone worship Bruce Lee but then with immigration, everyone can see, that Chinese FOBs are either bunch of nerds or girly looking guys. Also look at how the Chinese men depicted in their movies. They will usually be tough guys and get all the hot girls. Judging by the FOBs, however, none of them are even close to that. So media or movies cannot change the society and I think it's a waste of time thinking about them.
