Harold and Kumar Pt II - Escape from Guantamo Bay not too good
I saw this movie yesterday with some friends after church.
Honestly, I though this movie is NOT good as the first movie.
Harold hardly got to be shown with pretty girls. He was only shown in the beginning of the movie dreaming of that Britney Spears looking girl while he was showering.
I also didn't like that homeland security punk who had a translator to speak bullsh_t ching-chong language to Harold's parents. He also thought Kumar's parents were arabs. LOL.
I think Kumar (Kal penn) was shown in a better light than Harold was. At least there was that library scene where Kumar was shown studying and that pretty girl interested in his square-three poem who kept hitting on him. Then they began to kiss and smoke weeds. Then out pops a gay-looking weirdo Harold with gelled hair and funky clothes. Yes, Indians are considered Asians, at least more so in the UK. But why couldn't they show Harold with a decent looking girl?
Then there was that scene where that drug-addict mushroom eating friend (Neil?) drove to a whore house to relief his sexual urgency. So the movie shows neil choosing an old ugly looking lady with beach-ball sized breasts. They go into a room. Next, Kumar, mister "stud" playboy, goes into a room with two other women. And Harold you ask? He just stays outside and chats with the other remaining females as if they were all his psychiatrist. I even heard people in the audience call Harold a "loser" outloud.
Lastly but not least, when Harold and Kumar AND his girlfriend finally reach Amsterdam, Harold finds out that his significant other is hugging and kissing another guy. At first he seemed mad, and so would I. But he goes in and finds out the guy is doing a photo shoot with Harold's girlfriend. But the initial reaction was very negative to me, as it showed that Asian guys usually end up having their non-Asian female counterparts taken away.
Anyhow, luckily the photo guy was gay like a pineapple. Kind of like that scene in Shanghai Kiss where Leung finds out that Penettiere only hugged that gay white guy because he was her dance instructor in France.
I can't wait to see it...I expected it to poke fun at stereotypes because that's what the first one did. I don't expect the second one to change that formula too much. If anything, people now know who Kal Penn and John Cho are and that can only further their careers in Hollywood. I just wish that John Cho would get a role like Kal did in The Namesake. I had a new respect for Kal after that movie.
But really, like the others have said here, this isn't meant to be an Oscar nominated flick. It's supposed to be hilarious and fun, so as long as it lives up to that, I'll be glad I saw it.
