The Brave One
Rented this movie (it was on my Netflix queue) last night. Pretty solid if rather derivative thriller.
This film stars Jodie Foster as a radio show host who becomes a night vigilante after being savagely beaten by a trio of gangbangers. Her doctor boyfriend (Naveen Andrews) was also beaten in the attack but did not survive. With a gun, she prowls the streets at night, looking for vermin to exterminate...
As you can guess, this film is essentially an uncredited remake (e.g. ripoff) of Death Wish starring Charles Bronson. But it works as a decent suspense film with lots of tension. I liked the performances a lot and I consider this one of Jodie Foster's best films in a while. She definitely rebounded after starring in the turkeys Flightplan and Panic Room.
anyway, in case you are wondering, yes, there is a AM/WF love scene in this movie. Jodie Foster's character has sex with her Asian male boyfriend (who is a doctor, of course) and it's fairly steamy, but doesn't get too raunchy (it fits the context of the film pretty well).
Naveen Andrews is decent in a small supporting role as Jodie Foster's boyfriend. He's one of the more talented Asian actors (he's British South Asian) and you may remember him from LOST. This film also features a Chinese American (Angel Sing) in a small role as a gun dealer who provide Jodie Foster with the weapon she uses to slay criminals at night.
