I was on a dating site once.
Don't even remember the name.
Met one dude several times, then fled.
He was nothing of what he wrote in his profile and a mean prick to top it all off.
I decided that I personally have no patience to weed the liars from the truthful people there and left it at that.
Got a bunch of really weird emails from some dudes overseas who wanted to marry me instantly too, so that was it for me, I am not going to try it again.
That was about dating sites, I would not object to meet people I know from online otherwise.
Actually I have met a few people from forums and they all were way more pleasant than the one dating site guy.
I have better chances to get to know people through posting than through profiles I think.
Never tried it. Not interested either...I prefer to meet potential dates face-to-face.
I know people who have tried it (eharmony). One person found someone she knew in real life, lol, and they are currently in a relationship. I also know some people who have gotten dates but no relationship.
I guess if you want to go the dating service route, you should try to find a reputable site....
I'm giving it a shot right now. I was on okcupid.com for a few months, with limited success. I'm on Yahoo personals and Match.com right now. Yahoo Personals sucked for me, and I'm having a little success with Match.com right now.
I'm slowly getting discouraged from the personals scene in general, but it doesn't really hurt to keep the profile up there if you're looking around (for guys at least). It takes a lot of time to be thoughtful and I think you really have to send a lot of messages before you get even a few responses.
In my short time trying online dating I would say as long as you're in it for some light-hearted fun and go in with low expectations it can be both interesting in the people you meet and give you some more insight to yourself. I think just the simple act of writing about yourself is helpful in learning who you are and what you are really looking for.
I signed up for a couple of online-dating sites a month ago and deleted all the accounts a week later. Got bored of the profiles I saw... Not one interesting profile... guess, I am too picky?

Wow, youre a one one person sample size that covers about the whole spectrum. Sounds like you've had a little bit of every kind of experience.
hehe ya. I find it generally works really well, as long as both people are honest. Which is why I took a good long while before meeting people in person. My xhusband was 8 months of friendship before we met, for example. You can weed out most of the dishonesty that way.
I've never used any personals sites or anything like that. It's always been a chance meeting due to a mutual interest and a friendship developes from there.
I would do it again, it's definately cheaper than going out to the bar! Something to be said for meeting people at home in your pjs.
