Curirous, is Beauty really in the eye of the beholder................
Reading about womens weight and attractiveness, i thought of Renior, he painted lovely voluoptous women, and adored them, but wondering what do you here think of them
i am not even going to read anything else yet. after i respond, i will.
i think in many cases it is. but, in others, we can tend to go by what others try to tell us and how they use certain things to influence us to believe someone is beautiful (man or woman). i think that some people are scared to think for themselves, so, in a public way they will go all out to make others believe that they feel they have the same views when it comes to beauty. so, they can fit in and have things to bond over.
It must be in the eye of the beholder ... when I look at my brother-in-law, I wonder what in the world my lil' sister ever saw in him ... was she drunk when he proposed?!!
But then, I also know he truly adores her. He never raises his voice at her, gives in to her and (according to my sis, his best quality ...) willing to apologize when wrong ... damn, if he was any nicer, I would have married him!
And those qualities impressed my sis more than his looks ... so, in the same light, I think there are beautiful women everywhere as long as we care to look for what makes them beautiful to us.
i knew a girl who was as huge as a refrigerator. she had an amazing amazing face though and alot of guys had a crush on her. she'd probably be ugly thin. reminded me of renee in the bridget jones diary. clumsy but very endearing. i'd say she was universally beautiful. she knew it too.
I was sitting an Old Testament survey course in college. We were looking at slides of art depictions of the David and Bathsheba affair. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Bathsheba was a great beauty whom King David lusted over and had an affair with, knocked her up, then had her husband killed to cover his deed..
Anyway, the painting we were looking at was Rembrant's Bathsheba at her Bath..
Anyway, the guys in the class were mortified that the woman depicted was painted as a stunning beauty, she certainly didn't fit their idea of a beauty at all. And made several rude comments to make their point. So yes, the standards of beauty change, not only with society, but with individuals too.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that economic status plays a factor into beauty.
This was when "big" was considered beautiful because people we're concerned about childbirth which is easier for people who have some meat on their bones to do, and also the fact people who we're skinny we're considered poor and under privileged.
It's interesting how things like weightlifting and modeling distorts our idea of beauty, Guys today still prefer "meaty" women technically, you look at Kim Kardashian or Scarlett Johansson are much more preferred to women like Keira Knightly or Natalie Portman, even Lindsy Lohan was considered more attractive back in her younger day's when she hade tits and ass and a little bit of meat.
Fact of the matter is, men like curvy women, just not curvy on their stomach's or their arm's I think it's because mostly we have a better understand of health, all of us as humans are pre-conditioned to think of the best ways to find mates who will continue our blood lines with the highest rates of survival. Now that we know having a flatter stomach is healthier then having a fat stomach we will include that into our pre-conditioned mentality for survival. In other word's go to a freakin gym and do some sit ups fattie.
beauty today is not what it was even a few decades ago. it used to be about perfect features and nothing out of place. a little bland for our times perhaps.
