My Asian LoverGeneral Discussions. Community-related chit chat.
All right so I have an idea for an interesting thread.
It's basically a thread with a true or false formate to them and a poster asks a question of a racist stereotype if true or false and the poster of that race responds with a true or false answer, you can also add an explanation also.
I'll do both to start off but future posts only have to either answer or ask a question.
Chinese men are the "bitch" in the marriage where they do most if not all the cooking and cleaning along with working ?
True or False ?
Korean men are wife beaters ?
True or False ?
False.
At least from first hand experience, I know a lot of Korean males in general, of all ages and also a lot of Korean women of all ages I've never known a Korean male who beat on any of his S.O's, whether they be Fob or Asian American, I've never actually seen a Korean women with a bruised up face that they look like they got from a beating, in fact I've haven't seen more then maybe 1 or 2 Korean women with a bruised up face in my lifetime. I'm not saying that Korean men who beat their wives don't exist, but the notion that it's all right within the Korean consciousness hit's their women is something I've never experienced.
I think its a good idea, but we need to provide some definitions, for instance what a stereotype is. And we also need to establish the notion of true or false. For instance if we are making a blanket statement saying all men do this, then it is always easy to disprove the rule with one counter example in which case all blanket statements can pretty well be proven false when you consider populations of people. I think a more realistic metric would be to consider the statistical distribution of people who behave in a given manner. But that is problematical since I doubt that anybody has hard and fast figures for the kinds of stereotypes we are interested in.
Anyways, the point that I'm trying to get at is that when it comes to stereotyping and that sort of thing, its very complex and complicated and not at all as simplistic as many people make it out to be. You can't even say something so simple as all people of Asian origin have black hair and brown eyes. Also, a stereotype may be completely inaccurate but still popular in the general public.
For those who haven't studied mathematical logic, here is an example of sort of what I'm trying to get at. Here is a propositional statement. This is a very simple example.
Everybody of Asian descent has black hair.
If we take the logical negation of that statement, it would read
There is a person of Asian descent who does not have black hair.
The incorrect negation of the statement would read
Nobody of Asian descent has black hair.
I think that the problem with stereotypes is that as I conjectured earlier, they are very complex mathematical and logical phenomena. That is they are natural phenomena that happen, but with very complex mathematical properties. However the general public does not have a good grasp of logic, which mathematicians have been studying for thousands of years. This is why a democracy sometimes is not a good idea, when a large proportion of the voting public is uneducated about a particular subject. But unfortunately how our laissez faire capitalist society works, everybody with or without the proper knowledge and education, can vote with their dollars.
"Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions. -Albert Einstein"
All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

True or False ?
.
There is some truth in it. My Uncle was a hen picked kind of guy and ended up collapsing to an early death.
I have seen lots of Chinese women who like to nag and act like harpies but that is a generalization of course and could apply to any ethnicity's women.
My father would argue with my mom but end up doing whatever she asked.
