OK, I just donated some money to the Finnish Red Cross. I tried the Canadian one first, but the web payment didn't work. The main thing is that I got some money donated to a reputable organisation that will help people of Burma
Did someone else also donate some money? One dollar, one million or anything between! I am sure that every dollar will be appreciated

Thank you everyone for raising awareness and donating money .
My whole family is in Yangon and luckily they are all ok.
Burma has been one of the poorest country because of brainless and power hungry military junta and it's unfortunate that Burmese people have to suffer this natural disaster.

we do not need a roll call on who donates. just do it and be glad you did. there are enough things that will be popping up in the next week, i am sure where you can actually donate more directly to the cause. the red cross is great, but they also have their problems in getting the money where it is supposed to go.

Sai, it's really great to know your family is okay.
I hope they are getting all the support they need.
Thanks for sharing that with us.
With so many International 'agendas' it's challenging to know what is really going on over there so when we hear from people who are indeed Burmese or have family there, it's more often a genuine view.

Part of the problem is that the internationals are waiting for permission from the junta to deliver aid. Meanwhile the junta is pressing to go ahead with elections.
I can barely remember when U Thant was the first Asian, first non-white, non-European Secretasry General of the UN. This was in the very easrly 1960s. And the then the war spread all over SE Asia, the military coup put the junta in power, but people keep struggling to get their country back. Aung San Suu Kyi is one of the most inspiring leaders of these times. She was elected Prime Minister and then the junta put her under house arrest and she has been suppressed ever since and nothing wonderful in the news has prevailed from Burma (Myanmar).
I can't help but feel that China is responsible because they consistantly support the military junta. Why? Can someone explain?
And the rest of the world doesn't seem to care that much about Myanmar.
I hope that someday the people of Burma get their country back.

i agree, that woman is the best thing that has come into "power" in a long time. i hope one day she will be out free. i read a brief article in time magazine about her and they were trying to compare her to nelson mandala. that kind of of pissed me off. even though he helped to change things in south africa and he is a global figure of "peace", no one remembers all the shit he actually did when he was freed that was not so good. he is not some one i would use on any level compared to her. she is more of an example of caring about her people, land, and anything concerning such things. she has not forgotten what her mission is.

What exactly do we know about Burma during the Cold War era? What do we know about Burma while the rest of Indo-China was in upheaval from post-colonial liberation and warfare between Western sponsored puppet governments and communist rebellions? There is practically NOTHING written about the matter.
China is nothing more than an easy target. People who point the finger at China overlook the fact that various parties in South East Asian countries actively launder money and smuggle goods for personalities within the junta. They overlook how India - which is in league with the CIA in fomenting "Tibetan independence" against a godless communist yellow peril horde - actually cooperates now with the junta in Myanmar. People also overlook the involvement of their OWN governments in supporting TRULY genocidal regimes abroad, like American support for Nicaraguan contras who raped, murdered and mutilated, and French secret service supplying arms to Hutu militias for ethnic cleansing.
This "moral" perspective is so convenient, isn't it? But this moral perspective is designed and specifically engineered to justify acts of aggression against other factions while maintaining the illusion of one's own purity.
