I'm so tired of hearing Bela Karoli saying the Chinese gymnasts are underage...

Indeed. sounds like a lot of whining to me. since each country has separate teams and competes for their country and not just for themselves it just shows you that the system that a country runs matters

They're supposed to be 16 at the age of the year of the Olympics. So they can be 15 during the Games as long as they turn 16 by Dec. 31, 2008. Younger girls are lighter, more flexible, less fearful. But I think the rule was put in place to protect young girls from the sports equivalent of child labor. Karolyis is going off the rocker, but it's understandable since she coached the legendary Nadia and those girls in Eastern Europe get beat to the ground with training at a young age -- she just needs to shaddup though. My friends that are from that region of Europe have all sorts of crazy spine and joint problems from being pushed as a kid in ballet and gymnastics.
Most of these Olympic gymnasts from China are taken from their homes at the age of 3 to train for the Olympics. They have no say in it cause their parents pretty much give them away for the betterment of the families economic status. I feel sorry for the ones who don't want to grow up to be a gymnast cause they have no say in it...
Well, I know for a fact that it's incredibly easy to fake birth certificate ... two of the Chinese employees here were born in little tiny towns and the "birth certificate" doesn't always exist. So their family contacted someone when they were moving here and they had them made.
While I agree the Chinese girls look young, everyone looks young to me anymore. And it wouldn't be surprising with the pressures associated with hosting and putting on a good face that ages were faked. It's sad if it's true because eventually the truth will come out and should they continue to compete, one day they'll just be viewed as cheaters instead of true athletes.
Without any proof though, all of it is perception and hearsay ... and it is innocent until proven guilty, right?

Whether or not they were underage, I think the Karolyis are just making themselves look like sore losers at this point. They made their point repeatedly; no need to belabor it.
