This is not the first time that this has happened with the Spanish BB and tennis teams doing similar things.
Interestingly, the Argentines exited to China - serves them right.
When is this racism (at worst) or cultural insensitivity going to stop? Just speaks volumes of these latinos and hispanic cultures. Whatever the drawbacks of Anglo-Saxon culture at least Anglo's know the meaning of political correctness and have way better race relations and presumably tolerance than their backward cousins.
I say the IOC completely bar Spain and Argentina from hosting any major international events in the future just to let them know they need to change their ways.
Vietnamita (the Argentinean lover) what have you got to say?

I say come down to Argentina here and live here with the people! Because they're wonderful, friendly, honest, down to being downright tactless! Just like the vietnamese. In general they respect you, want to get to know you, and yes, I've dated many argentinean women, and made many, many argentinean friends. And I should add, the same with Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, all of Latin America. Down here, a pull on the eyes denotes asianness, not offensiveness. They even do that to denote the asian ness of the indigenous peoples. And if you look at the mestizos, like that one girl in the picture who's browner colored, you'll notice that a lot of them have the same eyes as asians.
So, would a harmless slight like an eye thing from a people who are ignorant about the whole concept of political correctness effect me? Especially when I see a LOT of couples who are asian man/argentine/brazilian woman down here, far more than I'd see on a per capita basis in the anglo world? From two latin american cultures that practically gush about the how great it is that the japanese and koreans bring technology to their country, how their students are applying to learn mandarin, how the neighbor's sister is getting married to the chinese FOB, to the family from Rosario and northern parts of Argentina where there's a large population of nisei, who've married with the locals, to the south of Brazil, where descendants of nazis and japanese nisei mix, turning old racial ideas of separation on their head? And I haven't even started getting into Paraguay, Venezuela, the rest of Latin America.
F--k no. I don't judge others, because at least I UNDERSTAND that their culture and world view is VASTLY different from our culture and world view.
Besides, when I make love to my woman, and she tells her friends about me, and uses the eye pull to denote my asian ness and my exoticness, and then her female friends go hunting for an asian guy, hell no, it doesn't mean much. Especially when my buddy says, "mi amigo que me ensena en las clases de ingeneria es chino", pulls the eyes, and then adds, "el es casada con mi hermana." (My friend who instruct engineering classes is chinese, he's married to my sister.) One thing that's for sure in Latin America, is that the people mix a hell of a lot more than anywhere else in the anglo world. How would anyone be able to account for why there's so many mestizo/mullato/sambo, etc? That alone should tell you something. Talk is cheap. That's a fact, and if there's one thing that you guys in the anglo world are known for, it's for getting upset over a lot of BullShit talk.
Action says a hell of a lot more.
Case in point, for the ignoramuses here who want to judge another country and culture's perceptions, and not respect that they have a different viewpoint, or understand that they have no concept of this pussy ass political correct bullshit that the anglo world is obsessed with, then guess what? Stay out of those countries then. Don't come down here. We don't tolerate pussies, and that means Kaku and the rest of you.
And by that same token, do not expect them to respect you or your perceptions or viewpoints.
"Your mind's pictures of today are tomorrows reality."

Yepp, maybe some people regard Asian eyes BEAUTIFUL and show by pulling their own eyes what Asian eyes are like and thus exotic and the Asian guys/girls are exciting to be with.
This site consists mostly of people from English-speaking countries, so I am not surprised that many people find the slit-eye gesture offending. Though I don't think that the girls' intention was bad, maybe they should consider not doing the gesture in pics that might be spread internationally. But then again, how do we know if a pic taken by a friend won't end up for the world to see?

THANK YOU for that one Nordic. My ex fiance (boliviana) used to talk about us having kids, and she wanted them to have my eyes. And she ALWAYS denoted it with the finger pull. I took that as a compliment.
Then she'd talk about having a shotgun around for the boys who'd want to date our theoretical daughter.
Here, I've got a GREAT example for you saran wrapped thin skinned ultra politically correct super sensitive can't take a moment in the heat types of just how DIFFERENT perceptions are in Latin America.
Did you know that Brazil CELEBRATED a HUNDRED YEARS OF JAPANESE IMMIGRATION TO BRAZIL? I've posted extensively about this in the LAtin Forum. I can't even see any place in the anglo world doing that. You can read about that one in the LAtin Forum. BUT, for the Carnaval, which was in honor of the japanese, the queen had her eyes surgically fixed to look more asian. Brazilian Carnival Star Has Eye Surgery To Look Japanese | World News | Sky News
Now, up here in the anglo world, the asians would be all up in arms, screaming "racist!" And actually, they were.
But you want to know how the reaction from the asian communities in Brazil, Argentina, et al was?
It was "COOL! She wants to look like us!" They were HONORED by her ACTION. Hell, they were down right flattered.
Go see for yourself! Go look in the Latin Forum, and look at the post at how Brazil, in TV, papers, EVERYWHERE was celebrating the hundred year anniversary of japanese COMING to Brazil! Hell, even some argentinean communities were celebrating their asian descendants. Can you say that the USA, CAnada, Australia, New Zealand, or Britain would EVER do that? Hell no. So yes, I see the eye pull as a latino would. It denotes asian ness, and sometimes, an exotic beauty. I don't see it as the anglo world does, UNLESS, I'm back in the anglo world and it's an angloworld inhabitant doing that.

Why would a plastic surgery for getting Asian eyes be a racist act? I just would NOT get it. As if Asian eyes are something bad, to be ashamed of?!?! Darn it, East Asian eyes are FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. And if someone likes a characteristic of your origin and your culture, perhaps a plastic surgery is a bit too much IMO, but the admiring from others for your origin and culture should be something to be proud of!

Some people use the eye-pull to show how much they love Asian eyes. In another place that is regarded COMPLETE OPPOSITE, a gesture of offense. I, too, would be alarmed if someone from one of the latter countries did that in a newspaper as a clear mocking gesture, as that is regarded an insult in the Anglo world. However, the ways of America are not the ways of the world...
