FINALS WEEK! Good Luck to All AL College Students!
As I try to put off studying as long as I can, I just wanted to wish any and all fellow college students here the best of luck on their exams.
Some tips for surviving finals week:
They're back. You've dreaded them all semester and done an award-worthy job of putting them out of your mind while you slacked off - but in the end, they always catch up with you. That's right. Next week is (cue creepy music) FINALS WEEK.
But before you rush to stake out your place for five all-nighters in a row in the ever-filling library, there are some things you can do to ease the agony that besets your brain upon the mere utterance of the phrase. Barbara Collier, the director of University Health Services, offers tips to make sure your brain isn't smoking - at least not too much - by the end of finals week.
EAT:
Do: Maintain a healthy diet and eat three meals a day.
Don'ts: Skipping meals - "Be sure to eat, skipping meals changes your thought process," she said.
Stay away from stimulants - "Yes, they might make you stay awake, but you have no idea how you will feel the next day."
SLEEP:
Do: Get at least six hours the night before each final.
Don'ts: Skip sleep in order to cram for a final. "You just will not do as well," said Collier.
STUDY:
Do: Take regular breaks, like walking around your house or library - "It's good to have a little distraction so that when you get back you are more focused,"
Coller said. Make a realistic study schedule.
Don'ts: Wait until the last minute. "You can't learn all the information, and you can make yourself sick."
ADVICE:
Establish good study habits early in the semester so you are not overwhelmed during finals.
"Exam time should just be review time." Exercise is a good form of stress relief but not at bedtime.
"Always be yourself...unless you suck."
