i do not know about other countries and this and that, but here in the us, we have mother's day. it will be here on sunday (may 11). for me, it is and has always been a time of stress and such. it is worse than someone forgetting christmas or a birthday.

what and how will you be dealing with this lovely "holiday"?

and what are some of your more not so lovely experiences during this time?

Me and my sister's are taking me mom's for brunch. Prob is we never ever get her alone, she always has to be w her SO . While we think he's ok and all, it would be lovely to have her all to ourselves, like a girl's day. I think I may have to tell him this yr. FOR WOMEN ONLY and hope he gets the hint.

Restaurants are often crowded in Finland on mothers' day. I usually had something nice at home with mom, and I used to bring her flowers or something nice. Now that I am in Canada, I think I will just call her on Sunday and wish a happy mothers' day.

I haven't celebrated Mother's Day in 20 years. My mom died in 1988.

I'm sending my mom flowers and calling her, but really don't see anything special happening for me since both my kids are pretty young still. I'll probably get a few pictures that they will draw which is always nice

i am very sorry, lubs. i know there are some people here who have lost their mothers.


i want to hear some not so nice celebration stories, though. something that could just kind of cheer me up or at least make me feel less stressed. lol. like: mercy loves company type of thing.

For years and years my father has taken us down to the mall, and had us buy a perfume set for my mother. For TWENTY YEARS.

I kinda felt like she was bored with it.

So last year, I decided to do something different for my mom and make it special for her. I called up my little brother and told him (hes 19) to come home around 4 so we could go do it. He said, okay, but then bitched later and decided not to come home. I F*ing lost it, he was being a spoiled brat and couldnt even be bothered to go help me pick out her gift from both of us that I was buying with my cash (god, forbid the little moocher put in any effort).

Finally the guilt kicked in (and by that I mean my father physically removed the keys to my brothers car from his hands), and we were off to the store. I know that my mom had wanted a firepit for her back yard since we had moved to San Antonio into a house with an amazing deck and trees. Then we picked up about 6-7 diffrent plants that I knew she really loved along with pots and a bunch of candles and tiki torches.

We took them home and hid it all in the garage. The next day, we all got up, said "Happy Mothers Day" and left it at that. Kinda let her sit and stew thinking we didnt do anything for her. Later that night, she was laying in bed reading, I snuck into the garage, pulled everything out and set it up in the backyard. Candles in the fire pit, the plants encircling it, tea lights on the ground, and tiki torches around the deck. It was so pretty in the early night. We brought her outside and for the first time ever, We suprised my mom. She just laughed and smiled and said,

"Oh my, I love it!! I'm so glad you didnt get me any damn perfume!"

Now I live 300 miles away.... I'm still trying to figure out how to top it.

thank you cin. that is funny and sad as in the stress levels. perfume is a nice thing and all, but you are smart. you mom is good to have you around. lol. i do put thought into what i buy as a gift and such, and now i regret it for this time being and maybe up until sunday. i just hate the way she acts when the day is coming around. she does not even understand how it makes me feel because she does not care and she does not know the effort i put into the gift. i usually buy it when i am not angry at her, so it usually has some sentimental type of value. or it is something as to what she might like. i do not just go and buy whatever. i bought her a nice and cute blouse plus this really nice smelling body scrub (melon/mint). i was going to buy something else, but certainly have changed my mind.

this year is gonna be hard for me, first mother's day since my Husband and I split, so I expect not to be honored, even though I do raise his child...(my son is not quite 2, so he can't do anything on his own)

As for my own mother...there's a rift there regarding me, and I'll sum it up by failure to protect. Learned some lies and coverups she engaged in regarding some abuse in my past. I really don't know how to act towards her right now.
