It is time for me to become an adult and have a nice home theater (esp in time for football season)
What I think I want is a projector to mount on the ceiling with wireless surround sound. But I don't feel I need a $2000 projector. Can't I just get one that is like $800? I'm not looking for top of the line movie theater, just something nice enough to enjoy tv, movies, and sporting events on large scale.
Can I go crappier? cheaper? My one at work is really crappy and I think it has a nice picture.
What about a cheap wireless surround sound with receiver? I don't need sony because I live in and condo so I can't blast it. Just for a normal volume level.
Should I just scrap this idea and get a flat screen??? It seems that the flat screen tvs that are big are going to run me around $1000 anyway. I don't want anything less than 32" (cause thats my crappy tv now) but for just a tv i want to pay like $500????
I know nothing about TV or projectors or surround sounds. You all tell me what to do and the best cheap companies to buy from Thank you!
I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17
Don’t matter if I step on the scene
Or sneak away to the Philippines
They still gonna put pictures of my derrière in the magazine
You want a piece of me?
You want a piece of me…
That projector is sufficient if you're just starting out. And the price is great. I suspect over time you would want to upgrade but trust me you will like that one for now.
I had a model similar to that.
Just remember that you can only watch that in a dark room.
I can't view the link, is the projector HDTV compatible? I think the higher the lumens the better.
For projectors you have to replace the bulb which can be expensive. It can also be very noisy, fans running, etc.
I don't know what the lifespan of an LCD screen is. If it preserves it's brightness over time. If you buy high end, I'm sure it'll last a long time.
What's nice about the projector is that you can make the viewing size huge! My friend bought a projector, and he made an outdoor backyard drive-in theater for his kids and for football games, using sailing cloth and pvc pipes. When it's not a drive-in, he sets it up in his basement. Which is probably the best place for a projector.
If you are not one to tinker with tecnology, I would probably get the LCD. You can watch it even during the day without having to close the curtains or replacing the bulb. Just turn on the tv and you're ready to go. Worry free.
why get a projector? you have to pay a buttload of $$ for the wall hanging thing if you want to get good picture quality.
panasonic plasma, wall mount it with the space saving mode
denon or marainze (sp) receivers
5.1 or 7.1 speakers (don't get the boss speakers), I forgot what sets I have back in Denver. Buy the complete sets of speakers even if you are only planning to use only 3 channels because in the long run, when you do want to use all your speakers, the speakers will all sound exactly the same.
The front 3 speakers and subwoofer should have the same cable length. The 2 in the back, its length should match as well. Make sure to adjust the tweaser so it level out at your ear height when you are sitting down, else you won't get the full affect. Apparently, not a lot of people know about it.
Don't get wireless speakers or receivers. It will more likely get interference w/ other signals and delays. The last wireless speakers I checked out had that problem, it was rather annoying.
AVS is by far the best site for video and to a lesser extent audio questions and user comments and advice, here's link to the under $3,000 projector forum: Digital Projectors - Under $3,000 USD MSRP - AVS Forum. I'm Roger Lococco over there, if anyone cares.
as the other posters above have noted, the replacement bulbs are rated for about 2-3000 hours, and will cost you around 300-400 bucks or more, depending on the model of projector. Bulbs can and do fail prematurely and explode inside, damaging the DLP color wheel and other interior components. Modern projectors like the Optoma HD80 can output a great picture, but projectors are a bit of a pain to own. The good news is long lasting LED and laser light sources are coming, and will get rid of those pesky bulbs for good.
For enjoying sports and movies, 32" is way too small, 37" is the absolute minimum, 40", 42", 46'' and 47''s are better, you can get 46'' and 47''s for around 1500.
Satisfied? You know, I really hope so because God knows you need some satisfaction in life besides shagging Captain Cardboard and I never really liked you anyway and... and you have stupid hair. Spike
