One of the girls made an interesting post in the ladies lounge, and rather than highjack her post there, I am moving a few of my thoughts out here.
So what do YOU think the final frontier of "ism's" are/is?
meaning....
racism ...
sexism- including the glass ceiling, which i think still exists...
ageism - particularly in the work place, older people needing to keep working well into social security years, because they dont have enough to live on,
OR lose their possessions to the nursing home or assisted living center...
weight-ism - I think nationally, this isnt as addressed as it should be, as witnessed here on this very forum, feelings are very strong on both sides of this issue..
and the ISM that got me thinking today..
I am calling it, mental health-ism
what i mean by this..is..that i think there is a HUGE area of judgement, against people whom are percieved to have mental health issues..
even if they seek treatment, are in therapy, taking meds etc...IF they are forthcoming enough to trust those around them enough to share their issues, it seems to me, that in the back of most peoples minds, there is some judgement,
a stigma, so to speak.
I hate this. it keeps the VERY people that need help and support the MOST, from seeking it, as they are afraid to be teased, judged, dismissed, or have an eye kept on them. People tend to stay away from them , as it is easier than , talking about it, taking time to care, lend and ear .
my point in the other thread was this..
IF someone had cancer, everyone would support them, and not say a word about them seeking chemo and radiation..
IF someone had diabetes, no one would judge them for taking insulin.
If some is depressed and needs a seratonin re uptake inhibitor, or has PTSD, or is Bi polar, suddenly they are judged for their illness? Like they are weak, or less than.
it seems to me anyway, that mental health-ism is one of the last isms that has not been addressed very well.
I think it needs more of a light to shine in this dark area. I think people need to be more understanding, less intolerant, and just accept people as they are.
to understand they are doing the very BEST then can, for where they are today.
discuss.

Reason: cant spell for shit ;)
Organism. Where guys are so obsessed with the size of their sexual organs that they can't have normal conversations or go on dates for fear of being too phallically-challenged for coffee.

lol sunny. never talk about what goes on in fight club. you know the rules. joking.
i am not sure what is going to happen in this thread, but, i see nothing too positive after a while. we all know who will say what, because they have always said it.
there will always be a stigma to such things and a fear of them because of all the more extreme things we see in the news and such. so, anyone with any form or level of mental health issues is seen as a crazy person, unfit, psycho, etc. we have seen it way too many times on this site.
