..so im talking to a buddy today..we have a mutual friend....
he says to me...have you seen bill lately?
me.. nope ( and im NOT complaining...)
buddy says...so i ran into him last nite...
me...oh?
buddy yea..and he tells me...
Bill ...... so you hear the russians invaded Georgia?
buddy... yep
Bill ... You would think we would be REALLY pissed.....aint carolina over near there?
O....M....G.....
I sersly cant make this shit up......
part of me wondered if they were putting me on...can people REALLY be so stupid?
it was an actual conversation...
if you knew the guy involved you would change your mind...lol
When this happened, he was at the casino..
keep in mind, he hasnt held a job in years...prolly 30 yrs old or so...married, 5 kids, wife works...
so he is at the casino..registerd with a grand reward card..which means
if you get the card in the morning, if you sit there all day, they pull numbers for $500 prizes..if the person doesnt show up to claim their prize, ( you MUST be there) then it goes to $1000 and so on...
so he sits there all day
waiting for his number to be called...

Ah. This american life. Rednecks. I was just in the South last week, and I had a conversation with a "redneck." He told me that there was an unwritten rule that only white southerners can call each other "rednecks", and that it's the same rule that blacks have with calling each other the n word. He warned me not to use the r word, since I was a yankee. He also said that the moment I moved and stayed down there, that's when I become a "damn yankee".
Sheesh. You know, our country, is really a bunch of countries.

Ive never heard that rule before..well, I was aware of the "N" word, obviously, but it isnt one I would use under any circumstances for any reason..
ive been to OK and TX a lot, but, up here, the term "red neck" has no where NEAR the connotation of the "N" word, and can hardly be compared.
i refer to redneck like - hick, hillbilly, mullet wearing, gun toting, squirrel eating redneck...
if you watch the humor of jeff foxworthy " you know your a redneck when.."
and many others..its not really a north/south thing, at least to the person you talked to.

I was at the border of North and South Carolina. I'm no where near versed in the different regionalisms of our country, but he sure sounded like a confederate flag wearing, pickup truck, shot gun toting, possum munching, I won't say inbred sounding, but, he definitely seemed like a stereotypical "redneck".
Speaking of which, a friend of mine, a white girl married to a filipino guy couple, told me an interesting story. They used to live in the boonies of Louisiana, and she told me that the locals there looked at her, and said that she didn't look like she was from those parts. Naturally my friend asked why, because she's white. The lady told her that her facial structure seemed different.
That's when she realized it was because she wasn't inbred.
I'm telling you, I don't call the stereotypes! I just hear about them!
