I was watching this (clip below) and thinking back to the good'ole days when i was a wee lass. The games we all used to play and the fun that was had by all.
I remember that when we played skipping in the streets even the adults came out on hot summer days and everyone joined in. It was almost like a street party. Of course its all changed now. And hardly any neighbours talk to each other. Us kids have all grown, most with kids of our own, and we have all made our own paths in life.
Ive also noticed that kids these days dont know how to have outdoor fun like there once was, and tend to feel bored or fed up if they dont have the up to date game for their console or pc, or there is nothing of great interest on the telly.
It was maybe because we didnt have these things that we did what we did, maybe it was because we had more imagination. I just dont know..
But the games were awesome.
Marbles
Skipping
British Bulldogs
Chickenelly
Hide and Seek
Jump bands
Whats the time Mr Wolf
Flip Coin
Tag
Conkers
Leap Frog
Ten man hunt
The list is endless..
My own kids know all the games i used to play as a kid, because i taught them how to. They dont sit around idle, and are the better for it. They are very outgoing, and not afraid to try new things. They love the outdoors, and know how to have fun without the help of technology. And best of all, i love to join in. I know that when it comes time for them to have sprogs of their own they too will pass on the fun.
I see it as me doing my little part to keep the past alive and kicking.
That was a good one, thanks Dardi. Incredibly impressive. I love the lil kid in the yellow shirt and how he goes underneath the other kids legs. They make it look so easy.
When we were young 'uns, we played outside until it got dark and my mom would ring a bell to tell us it was time for dinner. haha (waaay before cell phones)
I loved marbles!!! I also liked double dutch, hop scotch..hehe, freeze tag, hide and go seek and Lion ( this is a game my cousins and I made up)...That's another awesome thing you are a child, you can just make up something to do..
When I was younger, me and my friends would play gigolo, double dutch and all that goodness....hell I still do double dutch in my spare time! Tryin to get a team goin at my college.
