"Tomboys and guys' guys might want to join a knitting club," Psychology Today says. "Research at Yale [University] indicates that people who have more men in their in-groups [and families] have lower self-esteem, probably because men provide less ego-boosting support than women. Having a male supervisor also leads to lower self-esteem than having a female boss."
Deflating the male ego
According to a poll conducted by telecommunications firm Tiscali, 17 per cent of British women aged 16 to 24 who were surveyed confessed to speeding through sex or putting it off completely so they didn't miss certain TV shows.

I see why the fact that some women prefer TV shows from sex with their men deflates a male ego.
But a study which claims (see, it's not yet a fact for me) that surronding oneself with mainly males lowers peoples self esteem, why do you say that it boosts male egos?

I think it goes to how men and women are hardwired differently... women tend to be more nurturing, I would think...

OK, different wiring and all, but I still think that many men are nurturing enough to not find such things flattering?
I mean, if you hear that someone gets lower self esteem under your presence (assuming you like that person or at least don't dislike), does this flatter you?
I would not feel flattered except when I purposedly attempted to piss the person off.

The men might correct me if I am all too wrong.
I think what the study is saying, it's not that men are not good for your ego.. it's more that being around women are better at boosting your ego... I see it as different degrees of positive... and I don't think it's about flattering...
And yes... there are plenty of nurturing men as well!
