Question Why so much hate on B.A. degrees??? :(

This hasn't happened to me with potential employers (yet), but my fellow peers are telling me that I should go back to school and earn a B.S. in my field. I was like, "Uhm, I already have a (B.A.) degree, and now I'm in a master's program. Doesn't that count for anything?"

I'm being told by many folks of all age ranges to get a B.S. degree because it's better than a B.A. But MANY of my peers (family, friends, friends of friends, folks who stick their noses into other people's business) don't have a college degree (or even a high school level education). So, why do they tell me an opinion or "fact" if you can't provide me with evidence?

Randomness: Wouldn't a B.F.A. (Bachelor's in Fine Arts) be at the same level as a B.S.? Why no hype or little knowledge about that type of degree?

my school's example :

Theatre Arts: Majors and Minors

Notice the similarities of B.A.'s, B.S.'s, and B.F.A.'s.

Honestly, why all this hate of B.A. degrees? Is it because "Arts" doesn't sound as fancy smancy as B.S.?

Question: Difference between a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Reader Question: My University offers both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology. What is the difference between these two degrees? Is one degree better than the other?

Answer:
Each university may differ, so it is important to start by taking a look at your school's undergraduate catalog to see the differences between the two degrees. Note the core classes that are required for each degree, and then look at the electives and subject-matter courses that are required.

Bachelor of Arts vs. Bachelor of Science
Generally speaking, a Bachelor of Arts degree focuses on more liberal arts general education courses. Students who choose this degree may also be required to complete a foreign language component.

A Bachelor of Science degree will generally focus on more science and mathematics courses. Students pursuing a B.S. in Psychology may have to take more lab and statistics general education classes. The subject-matter area of the degree may also focus more on research methods and applied psychology courses.

Which Degree Is Better?
While one degree is not necessarily better than another, some educational experts suggest that students who earn a B.S. degree in psychology have greater flexibility and more opportunities. However, it is important to focus on choosing a degree that is the best-suited to your unique needs, skills, interests and professional goals.

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is a great option for students who have a strong interest in psychology, but also want to explore other disciplines in greater depth. Students who choose this degree option can also opt to later go on to further study in law, education, journalism, political science, and business.

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology offers excellent preparation for careers in science, as well as further graduate study in psychology or related disciplines. Students with a strong interest in science can also benefit from this degree options extensive study in biological science and research methodology.

Before deciding which option is right for you, review your university's requirements for each degree and talk to an advisor within the psychology department for further advice.

I wish people would stop hating on BA degrees! I'm a BFA in drawing. The average for people with my degree is to get their MFA to teach college level, but I have zero desire to do that. I'm probably going to go to beauty school like I wanted to 2.5 yrs ago.
In my school a BA degree is level 3 studio art classes with a lot more math, science, english, that sort of route. It doesn't really considerate on a particular subject or track in art.
I'd say continue getting your masters. My 2 cents isn't worth much because I've just graduated college and have very little insight into what other degrees are offered.
Besides from all the crap you've been hearing from people what do you want to do?

Nice! A future beautician My cousin's speciality is hair coloring, perms, and relaxers. She's making great money. She's been doing it for years.

I'm trying to get into the human services field and preferably with youth and families. I'm hoping to be a case worker or social worker, but I'm also applying to social service assistant, admin. positions, and child care positions just to try to get my foot into the door.

Wow! there's are soooo many careers in the science fields; green companies energy companies, and water facilities are always hiring enviromentalists and engineers here. Is it hard to find work in your field? What do you want to do?

I have a friend who has an entry level job as a social worker. Not sure what her degree is in though.
