ill-informed, yes. inarticulate, well just that depends on which toilet we're taking a dump in.

color
asians tend to wear too much black, boring monotone jet black. it lacks texture and depth. try darker hues of other colors. or brighter ones. check out these guys and their multi colored sweaters.

I really love the first guy's upper half. It's so creative. What up w those trousers though? Sort of ruins it by being too dumpy.

i see your point, but i think he was going for that contrast. the "hobo chic" look. if he had worn sleek expensive slacks he'd come across as a total ass! the baggy trousers give him a bit of a bohemian edge which actually softens the aristocratic excesses of his upper half. now he's someone you want to have tea with and chat about life. i think it works.

Those are both sooooooooo wrong in so many ways.
It's the total opposite end of the dressing spectrum.
That would qualify in my book as "woman repellent".

^ i know you're a baggy dockers and conservative ocbd (oxford cloth button down) kind of gal, but we're trying to think outside of the box here, sweets. these pictures aren't meant to serve as models, they're just meant to inspire the sartorially challenged here to be a little more original in their dress. so let's keep our comments productive and respectful, ok?

I must admit I tend to favor black a lot as well. Not sure why.. just always did. Maybe because it matches the color of my heart. lol
But I was an art student and at first, I thought artists were wearing black to make a statement and be the pretentious artsy moody bums that they are... then I started to realize that in drawing class, charcoal is quite dirty. film developers dry black on clothes... inks.. well.. that's self explanatory.
And then when I was studying fashion, where they encourage the use of color and all that, I still stuck with monochromatic ranges... The bulk of my designs are still black, white and or grey with a splash of red here and there. I emphasize more on the cut and the texture than I do with color. I feel that somethings can be implied and doesn't need to be blatantly spelled out with color or what not. Its' not to say I don't wear color but black is a nice safe classic fall back.
While I am not the sharpest dresser, I am not a slouch either. I have seen some mixed comments about banana republic and yes I must admit, it's a bit preppy but the quality of the clothes are also very high too. The way they finish the seams.. little details like putting piping on the inside seam of the cuff so it looks good when you roll it up.. the collar tips that are reinforced.. it's made like the old style shirts where tailoring was still important and not mass production and bottom line profits. Yes I am sure they are still making a killing but.. at least its not like some fad brand that sells on the fad and not the quality.
I say its always a good idea to have a few of the classic styles in your wardrobe since they never really go out of fashion and you never have to keep buying the latest trend (admit it.. saving money is very asian). It may not be edgy but if you play on subtle touches it will be better for you in the long run. Like many has said, the way you dress will attract that type of person. So if you dress classy and have nice subtle touches, you will attract people who notice the little things. I would much prefer a girl who pays attention to detail than for a girl who only is attracted to flashy dressing. Because once your trendy styles gets old, she pays attention to the next flashy thing.
The other thing is also to be in good shape. I have usually been in good shape so I took it for granted that everything looked good on me. But over this past year, I have been gaining weight do to the nature of my job (sitting at a desk). And as I gained weight, I noticed that the clothes that once made me look hot had the opposite effect. I started going to the gym again and things are looking right again. so really. being healthy is more important than all. whether you decide to dress trendy or classic, it will open up your options if you are fit
