I know that some of the members here have been around longer than I have (respect to the elders). but including my old account and this one I've been around since '06.
During this time I've seen and been in countless arguments where asian men are dissing and insulting each other based upon where they were born and raised. Asian-american men dissing FOBs and natives, Natives dissing "bananas", Euro-asian men dissing asian american men. it's disheartening circle.
I've had it.
For the life of I don't know why we bitch and moan when people from other ethnicities show thier prejudices towards asians when we hate on each other in the end.
Sure, we have our differences, but ultimately you and i are the same to "them." We are the same in that respect. But as individual people we're different. I could give a damn where a man was born, it's who he is as an individual, and who he is as a man that counts.
When issues about our race comes up where someone says something that doesn't ring true. We're quick to point out that their pre-concieved notions are wrong.... But we turn around and look at our brethren with the same eye.
You can say it in a million different languages and say we're ignorant here in North America, and so we are. But while you're pointing the finger, what is makes you so enlightened? Don't point at the speck of dirt in one's eye, without seeing the one in your own. Cliche? yeah, cliche for a reason.
It's foolish to judge a man based upon where he was born and raised. It's downright ignorant to group him into some negative stereotype when you know nothing about who he is as a person. We might as well create separate water fountains to drink out of. Who gets to ride at the front of the bus? Who eats first? So how the fuck is the asian man supposed to break into hollywood, get a decent tryout in major league sports, get his business setup in a new country, when his own brethren is hating on him? All I'm saying is if you have some prejudice towards a fellow asian man because of his race or where he was born and raised, help a guy out and judge him for WHO he is and not WHAT he is...
We bitch and moan about equality we cry for an end to pejudice and racism, but you can't extend that olive brach out to your own f*ckin' brethren.... Disgusting. How are we supposed to get up when we keep each other down.

it's really the same everywhere. It's just that ethnic groups tend to see themselves as fractured and everyone else's group as monolithic.
Breaking down barriers isn't just about your own group, it's about all humans in my opinion. I guess it's just easier to start with what you know.
I get where you're coming from and I agree to a degree. But I have a lot of close friends from many different ethnicities and races, mainly caucasians and africans. They seem to be more open and friendly towards each other regardless of where they came from. My asian friends all tend to be stuck on something, except my filipino and thai friends... they're always laid back.

that's the point..it always seems that way. It's much easier to see where your group is fragmented because you are smack in the middle of it.
Seen the slap the frenchie websites? Or how disdainfully Southern American's get treated by their northern counter parts? The fragmentation is there, even with regards to whites. I mean look at how recently Europe was fractured and embroiled in World War II? Take a peak at how the discussions regarding admittance to the EU are going. Politically asians have ASEAN, so there is some semblance of coming togethor and appearing monolithic. Think about the hatred felt between Chinese, Korean and Japanese as a result of WWII, that hatred is mirrored between the French, English and German too.
I think people are tougher on those they identify themselves with to be honest.

I just had to blow off some steam.
you didn't say anything untrue, that's for sure. No harm in blowing off steam, I didn't mean to try to take the wind out of your sails, but just show you where we're all fucked up not just Asians!

hahahaha Oh don't worry, there's a tempest at my back. We are all fucked up, maybe some more than others. or maybe that's just on this site.
In the end to each their own. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions.
All right. I'm out. I hope everybody has the day they desire. I hope it is a great one! Cheers!
I see where you came from bro. I gotta say fob-bashing is pretty modest on this site - this from a fob himself. I also understand many Asian Americans are tired of being always portrayed as fobs by the mainstream media, but come on, the culprit lies in the entertainment industry, not fobs. Fob-bashing is misguided anger.
Also, FOBs carry the weight of thousands of years of cultural heritage, which to a large degree distinguishes Asian Americans from the rest. So all I'm asking is that don't think of us as lesser human beings.
