Moving advice
I did a search and nothing similar to what I'm asking came up...
I am moving from Oregon to Southern California as soon as I can figure this question out. I need to move at least my bed and then clothes, etc down there. I don't necessarily need any other furniture besides that though, just things like tv, stereo, some books, some kitchen stuff, etc.
My question is, does anyone know th cheapest way to move somewhere of a pretty good distance (as in around 1129 according to websites) for the cheapest way possible? This is kind of a move of necessity not just for fun. The cheapest so far is a rate of $510 without including gas. My bed is worth more than that alone...but still. I can't afford to pay that, but I also can't afford to sell and replace things since especially in this economy people are not going to pay what should be paid for some stuff I have.
I'm really stressing on this but need to move as soon as I can.
Any advice, anyone know anything from experience, etc???
Thanks!

When we moved from LA back to Canada we used the following and had quite a bit of stuff moved for about the same price as you mentioned, but tons of additional boxes. You should be able to get a much cheaper price and you can post what you are willing to pay. They will want the weight and approximate square footage of what you are shipping before they can give you an accurate price. You can also post what you are able to pay and see if there is somone willing to do it.
I had a good experience, hope you do to.
Moving can be so stressful, good luck

Some of that U-Haul stuff can be such a rip. We got a car carrier on our most recent move, and just that (we did not rent a truck, we hitched it to our Ford), cost us $800 from Savannah to El Paso. We actually had to return the thing in Las Cruces, NM because it would have been $200 MORE if we'd insisted on returning it within the city of El Paso. Freaking insane.
Now, that's not saying don't check into it. Definitely do, because the pricing is determined by whether you're going from a high volume area to a low volume area, or the opposite way around. If you are going to a high-volume area, then it will be cheaper.
One other thing to check into is having your vehicle shipped on Amtrak, dismantling the bed and everything else you need to take with you, putting it all in the car that's going on the train, and then just getting a separate bus or train ticket for you to go down and meet it when it arrives. It could be cheaper than the U-Haul route. Although I haven't done anything like that myself, I do know TONS of people who have cheaply shipped POV's, so I imagine this would work.
We've always just loaded up our stuff and gone, or had the Army move us, or some combination of the two, so I'm little to no help when it comes to civilian moves over distance.
